Six weeks into the football season, Dre Thompson has experienced a roller coaster of emotions during his first season as Eisenhower’s head coach. To open up the season, Eisenhower burst onto the scene by stunning Hightower in a 42-41 thriller. Less than a week later, however, the Eagles suffered a tragedy when JV player Al Smith, 15, died after fainting at practice.
So for this week’s installment of the Coach’s Corner, we stopped by Eisenhower to talk with Thompson about his transition to head coaching, how the team is holding up since Smith’s passing, the keys to making a run for the District 18-5A title and one of the top up-and-coming prospects on his team, sophomore running back Donald Catalon.
